One of the incredible things about living in one of the centers of the world is seeing everything coming together, in life, and in death.
I took out a few minutes yesterday to pay respects to the late great Teddy Kollek, who served as Mayor of Jerusalem for 28 years, and before that was one of the founders of the modern State of Israel.
The two pictures below represent part of what made Teddy special in life -- his determination to keep Jerusalem a place for everyone, and to encourage, as much as possible, for there to be shared space and some connections -- the ultimate social networking.
This first image shows Teddy's cask being carried around city hall sqaure -- with a Breslov hasid in the foreground, who also came to honor the secular Jew from Vienna.
This second image shows Teddy's cask, in the blue van, being driven out of City Hall one last time, passing the Russian Compound, home to the beautiful Russian Orthodox Church -- during his tenure (and after) Teddy maintained a close relationship with all the spiritual leaders in Jerusalem.
