While I often talk big about mission and purpose, and how we need to be holistic beings fusing everything we do with our core ethics and values, most of the time I lapse into "normal" practice and compartmentalize.
And yes, sometimes it is a stretch to explain how investing in a 3D Virtual World company (Vyond , just got back from an LA roadshow organized by co-investor Yossi Vardi) can affect "Tikkun Olam" -- but after a few beers I can explain.
There are times, however, when it all comes together in much more obvious way. A few months ago we invested in KetaKeta, who specialize in producing viral videos for web distribution. Some of their spots have been seen by tens of millions of people around the world. Another time I can talk about the business model beyond KetaKeta, but for now lets focus on their most recent video (below or at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1digI04JP8g), done together with Or Yarok, a wonderful non-profit organization here in Israel doing something about an extremely serious problem: road deaths. As many of you know, more people die on the roads in Israel from "accidents" than in all terrorist attacks combined, in our worst years of terror. This is not an Israeli problem, by the way. Just read that in New York State alone over 3,000 people died in car crashes in 2006. That means New York suffers from 9/11 every year.
The video below is one small attempt to tackle one part of the problem...as you can guess, my opinion is we should all be driving a lot less (try saying that in LA!). But in the meantime, lets all drive a lot more carefully.
Shabbat Shalom
Thanks for sharing! Great video!
