So here I am at the "Mobile World Congress," which used to be known as the trade show 3GSM, before that just GSM.
I need to keep this short, because I forgot my power supply to my laptop, and anyway have no wifi/internet connectivity at the apaprtment we are renting. So first of all, thanks to T-Mobile for their lounge with open internet access...just checked all my urgent email, now on to blogging...
Bottom line, this isn´t a congress, it is not really world, but it is about mobile. Putting hubris aside, it is a useful event for nothing more than a somewhat convenient gathering place of people, focused on one area of interest. For that alone better than CES. But if we (here with Vyond and mPortico) did not have meetings set up in advance, it is at most a 2-3 hour event, more than enough to get a basic feel.
That is the reality of most trade shows, it is what happens away from the formal sessions that is most relevant and productive.
Recommendation for start-ups: only attend such things is enough meetings have been set up in advance. Trying to meet and mingle is quite difficult.
