The snark in your post comes through loud and clear. But the facts--not so much.

I think what you're saying is: "Free phone calls from your PC are not worth celebrating and publicizing, because someone tried it 13 years ago"!?!?

How does it help anyone to know that a "now-defunct" service once offered this feature?

It's a HUGE development that a major company with deep pockets is now offering free unlimited calls to phone numbers. NOT to nicknames (like Skype). NOT for money (like Skype). But free, to phone numbers.

As far as I know, Google's new feature is the ONLY place you can get this service--and that's why it's newsworthy.
